After spending a decade living in Chile and feeling inspired by the HONY project, I came up with the idea to document other peoples lives in Chile by sharing unique portraits and conveying in their own words how they came to find themselves in this long thin country in South America.

"It's funny how you think you have things figured out and then you suddenly wake up and the world is upside down. I ended up going to Chile... maybe I hoped I could win her back, but she was already over me. Now I'm trying to find work and figure out the next step. It isn't easy for me to just let it go, but I want to respect her. Every moment we spend in love is a chance to grow, and even though it didn't work out, I'm grateful for what it was."

"Through the suffering of my soul, I came to the realization that it was no use to keep on fighting - I spoke with the stars and they told me that leaving Chile would be hard and that I had an important task to complete first.
Andalucia, land of my heart, I will return once my soul is healed back to your whitewashed villages, where the sound of the Flamenco guitar plays in every corner; all of me and my zest for life. "
"I dedicate myself to the greatest profession: teaching language. Language is communication; it’s how people relate to each other.
Having a common language brings countries together. I’ve spent my career opening up the Spanish-speaking world to high school American students; now it’s time to bridge the cultural gap by bringing American English to the corporate world of Chile. Being immersed in Spanish feeds my soul while seeing snow-capped mountains of the Andes leaves me in awe. To hear the Spanish on the streets is heavenly music to my ears. To hear bachata in the salsatecas makes me move. To shop at La Vega is to be con la gente and leaves me nourished. All of this is why I flew 4557 miles on a one-way ticket."
"Me dedico a la mejor profesión: la enseñanza de idiomas. El lenguaje es comunicación; es cómo se relacionan las personas entre sí.
Tener un lenguaje común une a los países. Pasé mi carrera abriendo el mundo de habla hispana a estudiantes estadounidenses; ahora es el momento de cerrar la brecha cultural llevando el inglés americano al mundo corporativo de Chile. Me alimenta el alma sumergirme en el español mientras las montañas nevadas de los Andes me deja asombrada. Escuchar el español en las calles es música celestial para mis oídos. Escuchar bachata en salsatecas me dan ganas de bailar. Comprar en La Vega es estar con la gente y me nutre el alma.Y todo eso es porque volé 4557 millas de solo ida."
"Dejarlo todo y empezar de nuevo aunque duela en el alma... no había otra opción.. vine acompañar a mi hija como es costumbre en mi tierra, y tuve que dejar atrás a mi marido e hijo. Sin mirar atrás, sin despedirme de nadie empecé un nuevo proyecto de vida y la posibilidad de ayudar desde la distanci a los que quedaron atrás. Gracias a la vida."
